Scrum

Scrum is one of the most popular ways of organising a team’s work on a software project — website building included.

There are several ways to arrange the working process on a site. Scrum is among the most widely used.

Its central idea is to break the work into sprints: comparatively short stages, usually one to six weeks. During a sprint the developers concentrate on the functionality planned for that sprint and are not pulled onto anything else.

When the sprint ends, what was built gets tested, and the plan for the next sprint is adjusted in the light of what was learned.

The method buys you two things that normally pull against each other. On one hand, goals are reached dependably and on a timetable you can plan around. On the other, the project stays able to absorb the changes in requirements that invariably show up once work is under way.
